Keyword Research Tips – Improve Search Engine RankingMore attention has to be given to keyword research because there is a constant change in Google’s algorithm combined with the increasing number of new websites that are published online daily.

I want to share with you keyword research tips that will improve your search engine ranking.

Once you have learnt how to choose the right keywords effectively, you will notice a significant improvement in your ranking in search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo!

Keyword Research and Its Importance

Keyword research is a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practice of finding, analyzing and using actual search phrases, terms, or words that people use in search engines to find information on the web.

After performing proper keyword research, you create well defined, broad and focused content. Keyword research is essential in that you can tell what topics people care about and how important those topics are among your targeted audience.

Find and Use Long Tail Keywords

As opposed to using the commonly sought after head keywords, I encourage you to target long-tail keyword. They are keywords that consist of more words. They are less competitive since fewer people create content about these keyword topics, making them a perfect target.Keyword Research Tips – Improve Search Engine Ranking

For instance, the topic of this article could have been “Keyword Research” which is a head keyword. To make it a long-tail keyword and make it more specific, I used the long-tailed keyword strategy to use “Keyword Research Tips – Improve Search Engine Ranking”.

This keyword is less competitive and should help my new website quickly get recognition.
Proceed to create a blog that is optimized around your long-tail keyword and make sure to spread this long-tail keyword into your content evenly.

It is worth noting that when visitors to your website find their long-tail keyword search result in your post, they feel excited about your blog post and feel you have the answers they seek to find.

Google Suggestions is one of the best tools used to generate long-tailed keywords. When you type in your desired keyword, Google’s autofill search gives suggestions based on popular search topics. Choose about there keywords that will require further researching.

I highly recommend using Jaaxy, an advanced keyword and research platform, that will generate details on your selected keyword and shares many other related keywords along with their statistics. It saves much valuable time in choosing the perfect keywords for your articles.

Create Keyword Timelines and Respect Them

The main reason you should have timelines after you have a list of your powerful keywords is that keywords may not be relevant for long. Some can be trending for a week, others for a month, while others for a lifetime.

However, if you use Google Trends, you can analyze the popularity of your search queries in across various regions and languages. It further helps in finding content ideas and revealing seasonal spikes.

Google Trends is a free tool you can utilise especially the keywords it presents under Queries. These keywords are unique; you will not find them in other keyword research tools.

For Your Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Campaigns, Use Negative Keywords

Google Ads defines negative campaigns as a type of keyword that prevents your advert from being triggered by a particular word or phrase. It is also known as a negative match. Your advert will not be showing to anyone who is searching for that phrase.

For instance, if you select “Important” as a negative keyword for your campaign or ad group, Google Ads will not show your advert for any search that contains the word or term “important.”

Negative keywords help rule out customer or website visitors you do not want, thereby focusing on the keywords that matter to your customers. Negative keywords will help put your advert in front of interested users, and this increases your return on investment (ROI).

Perform Competitor Research

It is to evaluate the ease or difficulty of the market before targeting a new keyword by measuring how difficult it will be to rank for a particular keyword.

Competitor research is never easy, but some tools can make the process easy

  1. I have not gotten into negative keywords yet but I can definitely see the value in those posts.  I definitely agree with long tailed keywords.  It just triggers getting ranked for other keywords then the original keyword you were looking to get ranked for.  It is super important to stay up to date on the Google algorithm changes.
